William Richards graduated from the University of Leicester with an Honours Degree in Biological Sciences. William won a Glaxo-Wellcome Prize Scholarship leading to a PhD in Molecular Genetics, from the Department of Genetics, at Leicester University and the Geneva Institute for Molecular Biology. William also undertook a Post Doctoral research fellowship at the Institute for Cancer Research, London, which included an appointment as an Honorary Lecturer of the University of London.

Seeking a new challenge William joined a leading European private practice, D Young & Co., to train as a patent attorney, obtained a post graduate certificate in Intellectual Property from the University of London and is now qualified as a European patent attorney, a UK patent attorney and a European design attorney.

William has worked in private practice for nearly 10 years. His clients have included Universities and Research Institutes, Startup and Spin-out Companies, UK and foreign SMEs, International Corporations as well as individual inventors. William joined K R Bryer & Co in 2007.
William specialises in all types of biotechnology including molecular biology, vaccines, assays, gene sequences, drug delivery, diagnostics and therapeutics, array technology, genomics, bioinformatics, structural biology, stem cells, food technology, and medical devices.
William provides training courses for trainee patent attorneys prior to sitting the United Kingdom examination on "Patent Infringement and Validity" and the European examinations on "Patent Drafting" and "Patent Amendment".
